Learning Goal: I’m working on a other discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.
Discussion 1: Black American Sign Language
Identified dialects of ASL include Black American Sign Language (BASL), used by African American signers, and Indigenous Sign Language, used by Native American and indigenous signers, as well as regional dialects. A single word may have multiple variations depending on who the signer is and the culture and region in which they live. BASL in particular has received awareness recently through social media and through Gallaudet University’s (n.d.) Black ASL Project, which seeks to record the history and distinct linguistic features of the dialect.
For this Discussion, you investigate the historical roots of BASL and compare it with ASL.
