Create a family tree.
Literally. You can be as creative or non-creative as you’d like — use PPT, graphics, an excel spreadsheet or Word.
On this family tree, you will:
a) Identify the individual and their relationship to you (there should be 4 individuals at a minimum),
b) Using terms from the text, and other respected sources, analyze the communication with each member of the tree. Use real-life examples/stories to support your points as well as quote from the text.
Discuss the relational dynamics occurring,
Highlight self-disclosure issues,
Explain the communication climate,
Share sources of interpersonal conflict,
Share the conflict styles used to resolve issues.
c) Identify what can be done to create better communication with your family members. Use the text to make suggestions for improvement — do you need to use the assertive message format? Respond non defensively to criticism? Use constructive conflict skills? Employ evasion?
d) Include material/research from the text and other respected communication sources to compliment your work.
