Read the Songs of Innocence in our anthology. Consider the following topics for each poem:
1. The voice of the speaker
2. The verse form
3. The dominant images
4. The meaning of “innocence”
5. Any ironies about the speaker’s situation
Read the Songs of Experience in our anthology. Consider the same topics as for the Songs of Innocence, but focus on “experience” in place of “innocence.” In addition, look for poems that have companion poems in the Songs of Innocence, and consider how their combined perspectives and voices comment on each other.
For your two-page paper, provide a close analysis of one poem from either grouping. If it has a companion in the other group. be sure to take into account the relationship between them.
