1. What is the difference between an elite audience, a particular audience, and the public sphere? Define these terms in your own words and explain how they differ from a universal audience. Then provide one example of a piece of writing for TWO of the three actual audiences (elite, particular, or public sphere) and an explanation of what makes each document uniquely tailored to the audience you have identified.
2. In what ways do readings this week explore notions of audience and argument? To what extent are they similar to or different from other notions of audience in the history of rhetoric we have already covered? After you have outlined these notions of audience, respond to each other’s answers and explain which notions of audience seem most helpful in your own writing practice or that of your own students.
