What are the harms? (400 words)
The research report should provide an introduction to the chosen topic – Human Trafficking, draw on policy documents, reports and academic research (such as peer-reviewed journal articles and academic books) to describe what is known about the problem, and synthesise this information into a 1,000 word snapshot of the problem with a critical evaluation about what we know, or need to know, to understand why the problem is occurring. Your response should examine the problem itself and the harms it might contribute to global society (including economic, political, human, environmental harms), where it occurs, what is known about it, and our understanding of its various financial, material or social costs that make it a problem worthy of categorising as a crime. Students are encouraged to organise their proposal using subheadings. The suggested structure and subheadings are as follows: 1.Introduction (100 words) – a summary of the problem, where it occurs and what will come in the paper 2.Definition of the problem and the harms it causes – how is this problem defined? Who has defined the problem? Are there competing definitions? Where does it occur? What are the harms? (400 words) 3. What is known about the problem – what does the research say about how often it happens, why it might happen, how it might happen (. the processes people undergo to commit the harm), who is affected and who is causing the harm, how has the research been done, which individuals/organisations are doing the research, how are they viewing the harms and who is affected? (400 words). 4. Conclusion (100 words) 5. References (not included in word count)
