What assumptions are they making about the world?

A‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ssessment details Word count includes in-text citations in the document body but not the reference list. In week 1 students will be given two different articles on a similar topic to analyse (these articles will be attached) Students are to critically analyse the articles and to compare and contrast the ideas, theories and worldviews on the subject. Students are expected to write a comparative essay of 815-900 words demonstrating analysis and critical evaluation of the articles. The essay should have an introduction, body and conclusion and should be written in full paragraphs. While students are not expected to do any more research for this assessment (the articles will be provided) referencing conventions should still be applied (for example when using direct quotes or referring‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ to a particular idea/page in the article). Only the author/date system of referencing should be used in this unit including for this assessment item. A reference list of the two articles (in alphabetical order by author surname) should be provided at the end of the essay. Guiding questions for analysis: -What is each article about, what are the main themes? -What is each author’s starting point? What assumptions are they making about the world? -Is there an identifiable debate? If so, what is it focused on? -What are the underlying theoretical constructs in each of the articles? -Are the articles similar/different? If so how and why? -Does one article appear more convincing? If yes/no why or why not? More information will be provided in the lectures/worksho‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‍ps.
