The Summer Olympics in Barcelona (1992) was the first year NBA players could play basketball in an Olympic games. Previously, only amateurs could participate. The team that was assembled became known as The Dream Team. You have undoubtedly heard of them. It’s the greatest team ever assembled. And while the basketball itself was amazing, the stories that surround the marketing and commerical sponsorship pieces of the sporting event have become legendary to some in sport management. We will focus on the commercial sponsorship issues involving Michael Jordan, USA Basketball, Nike, and Reebok.
For this assignment, I would like for you to go find out what the problem was and write a 1-2 page summary of the issue. This topic was covered in Episode V of the Michael Jordan/Bulls documentary (The Last Dance) that came out a couple of years ago. Make sure to include a synopsis of the sponsorship issue (I do not want a synopsis of the documentary episode. Do this and I won’t grade it.) AND information from the text that is applicable. I want to see you apply what you learned in the chapter to the issue involving the above mentioned parties.
