textbook:
McLaughlin, C.P. & McLaughlin, C.D. (2019). Health policy analysis: An interdisciplinary approach (3rd ed.). Jones & Bartlett Learning.
Students should locate a policy within their current organization related to one of the five major policy categories identified in the textbook (Chapter 1, Table 1-1): Quality, Resource Availability, Payment, Motivating Patients and Payers, Motivating Providers, or Cost Efficiency and Effectiveness. Ideas can be gleaned from peer reviewed articles, papers, the textbooks, or from other outside sources.
In 2-3 pages, the student should complete the following:
Describe the policy, including the category.
Describe which departments are directly affected by the policy and how.
Describe how effective the policy is in addressing the category, e.g. are staff aware of the policy, do staff follow the policy, is the policy easily accessible, etc.
Describe what changes could make the policy more meaningful for the providers.
The paper should use the standard UT-MDACC title page, reference list, and be written in APA format.  The student should support the submission with a minimum of two sources.
