How useful is this distinction for understanding the presidency?
Write an essay discussing this question, considering the nature of the modern presidency and how some scholars understand its relationship to the traditional presidency. What developments define the modern presidency and why did it emerge? Are there any problems or limitations with this approach to understanding the presidency, for instance when we consider the nature of the ongoing institutional/constitutional order, the idea of “political time” (Skowronek), or the intersection between politics and economics (Grover’s structural/political economy view)? Please draw on relevant frameworks from our class to address this topic. Insights or examples from the Pika et al. textbook are also relevant here.
