Write an analysis of Atticus Finch.

Atticus Finch is one of the most loved and respected characters in all of literature. Atticus is considered a round character because we see many different aspects of his personality. In this project, you will be taking a deeper look at this legendary character and identifying some of his key character traits and strengths.
Here is your goal for this assignment:
• Write an analysis of Atticus Finch. The events of the book show that, despite his reputation with certain other characters, and even his children at times, Atticus Finch is uniquely skilled as a father. Write a character analysis of Atticus as a teacher and a father, using chapters 9-11 of To Kill a Mockingbird to support your ideas. In Chapter 2, Miss Caroline Fisher tells Scout, “Your father does not know how to teach.” Through much of these three chapters, however, he shows himself to be an excellent teacher who takes his responsibility to raise his children very seriously. Your essay will detail Atticus’s excellence at teaching his children. Use direct quotes and paraphrases from the novel as evidence – but remember that no more than 10% of your essay may be from direct quotes. Also remember that you must cite all quotes and paraphrases.
Your essay must include:
• A thesis statement that explains the main point of your essay. Because the topic of this essay is Atticus’s skill as a teacher and father, your thesis statement should reflect his abilities in those areas.
• Direct quotes and paraphrases from the novel that support the assertions you make about Atticus and his skills. Please remember that no more than 10% of your essay may be from these direct quotations.
• A clear message. Your essay needs to prove your thesis statement, so every fact, opinion, or idea you include needs to help prove or explain your thesis.
• Paragraphs. This is an essay, so you need an introduction paragraph with your thesis statement as the last sentence of your introduction, one or more body paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph.
• A Bible verse. Find and explain a scriipture that Atticus exemplifies. Be sure to properly cite it. Connect it to the rest of your essay—don’t just let it “float” in its own paragraph.
• Proper MLA citations: both parenthetical citations and a work cited entry, for both the novel and the Bible.
Your essay must be at least 300 words and should not exceed 500 words. To use the “word count” tool in a Microsoft Word document, first highlight the text that you want to count, then press Alt T to access the tools menu, and then press W for the word count.
