Final Paper/Project
The final assignment for the class will be a paper or project such as web site development, brief usability evaluation, survey, demonstration, etc. related to one of the current topics in the field of user experience, usability, human-technology interaction, human-computer interaction, or human factors.
Papers will be 9-12 pages, not including title page, abstract, references and appendices. It includes a critique and synthesis of pertinent literature organized logically to summarize key aspects of the topic. The paper includes an evidence table of selected research articles (at least 5) that summarizes the purpose, subjects/settings, methods, major findings, and limitations.
Projects are more flexible in format and content. Examples are a pilot heuristic evaluation of a device, website or application, a brief cognitive task analysis of users about a topic such as their experience with electronic handoff forms (or any other complex application) or wiki/website that outlines usability requirements for Meaningful Use 3.
All students are required to submit a one page proposal for their final paper/project and receive approval from the instructor before beginning work on the final paper or project. The projects are individual projects unless students communicate with the professor about a proposed group project and receive approval.
Grades for Final Paper / Project will be assigned based on the following criteria:
Relevant purpose and goals of the proposal
Goal achievement in final paper/project
Appropriate selection of literature or models
Logical flow, accuracy and structure of final paper/project
Appropriate methods and findings
Format (APA style, clarity, spelling, grammar)
