Develop a Balanced Scorecard
Develop a Balanced Scorecard
This is an individual assignment. You will select a publicly traded company and develop a balanced scorecard. Please refer to pp. 37-39 and to the handout in Moodle for more information about the Balanced Scorecard. You will need to develop one or two strategic objectives for each of the four categories of the balanced scorecard, namely customer satisfaction, efficiency of internal business processes, organizational knowledge & innovation, and financial performance. For each strategic objective, you will develop two performance measures and accompanying targets for each strategic objective. To determine appropriate strategic objectives, performance measures and targets, you will need to research the company’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. So, your balanced scorecard must be supported by a SWOT analysis.
You will need to support your findings and recommendations with research. Good sources include:
• Annual reports and 10K reports in Investor Relations or About Us sections of the company website, or on Sedar or Edgar. These can provide extensive information about existing strategies, competitive priorities and advantages, and risks.
• Product or service information and news sections of the company website;
• Journal and newspaper articles written about the company;
• Financial analyses and blog discussions about the company;
• Company advertisements.
You will include a brief discussion describing how the elements of your SWOT analysis are reflected in the choices you made in your balanced scorecard. I recommend preparing this assignment in PowerPoint. The SWOT analysis should be in point form and contain no more than 4 items per category. Your analysis should be no longer than 500 words and should clearly demonstrate the link between your SWOT analysis items and your balanced scorecard strategies, performance measures, and targets. More is not better in this assignment. I am looking for quality, high-impact recommendations based on a well-researched understanding of the company.
