What are the genotypes of the parents?
Learning Goal: I’m working on a genetics exercise and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.DETAILS In a breed of horses, coat color is controlled by two independent genes. Horses that are dd are unable to synthesize pigment and are
white. Horses that are aa fail to properly assort the pigment and if pigment is made they are all black. If pigment is made and properly
assorted, a gray phenotype results. For the following questions, assume the dominant allele for both genes produces fully
functional protein.
QUESTIONS 1. A white male is crossed to a black female. All of the F+ offspring are gray. What are the genotypes of the parents? What is the
genotype in the F1 generation? 2. If you mated members of the F1 generation, what phenotypic ratio would you expect to get in the F2 generation? Include what
phenotype corresponds with each number in your ratio.
3. In a cross between members of the F1 generation you observed the following numbers of offspring: 59 gray, 16 black, and 26 white.
Test your prediction from (c) with a chi square test, showing your work. Provide your interpretation of the results using the table at the
end of this document. DETAILS Sickle cell anemia is a recessive trait that shows an interaction with malaria. A female carrier of the sickle cell allele has children with a
male who is heterozygous for the sickle cell allele. Based on what you know about the interaction between the sickle cell allele and
malaria, answer the following questions. QUESTION1. What is the probability of this couple having 5 children, 2 of whom are afflicted with sickle cell anemia?
Requirements: One sentence per item
