Discuss the history of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTW)
“AOTA’s Board of Directors issued a statement that starting 2025, entry to the occupational therapy profession should be a doctoral-level single-point entry. Despite AOTA’s stance, there have been many discussions among various stakeholders regarding the value of the clinical doctorate degree. This research project will examine the perceived value of a clinical doctorate in occupational therapy.”
Based on this, please write an Introduction and literature review discussing the premises of the perceived value of a clinical doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy. The introduction must introduce why the numerous programs implemented an advance curriculum towards their Occupational Therapy Program to an entry-level doctoral degree. Discuss the history of the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTW) and why thoughts of transitioning to a single-path entry with a doctoral degree into the occupational therapy profession were considered. Please write a problem statement that this research will be addressing. Also write some pros and cons of making this drastic transition from a two pathway (combined bachelors-to-masters or post-baccalaureate Masters of Occupational Therapy program, or through an OTD program) to a one way path of getting a doctoral degree.
The first two PDFs I’ve attached should be used as reference models on how to draft this introduction, so please refer to the introduction section on these two first PDF files. The files are titled:
1. “Retrospective Analysis of Graduates’ Outcomes in a Post-Professional Occupational Therapy Doctorate Program”
2. “Status of the Entry-Level Clinical Doctorate in Occupational Therapy Education”
The other PDF files should and must be used as sources to pull ideas on creating the introduction and should be used
