Very little research has been done on masculinity in older age. One of the few studies on the topic was conducted by Thompson (2006), and is widely cited for examining masculinity in old age. For this activity, ask at least 3 (max. 5) people to complete the following sentences:
“An old man…”
“Compared to a young man, an old man…”
“Compared to an old woman, an old man…”
Then, compare your findings to Tables 1-3 found in Thompson’s (2006) article (pp. 638-642). The tables summarize the subtypes of masculinities in older age identified by Thompson’s (2006) research participants (i.e. undergraduates who were asked the same questions).
Lastly, respond to the following:

Which subtypes identified by Thompson (2006) were supported by your findings?Were the subtypes negative or positive?
How does Thompson (2006) answer the question in the title of his article, “Still a man?” as it relates to older men? Do your findings support Thompson’s (2006) conclusion about older men? Why or why not?
