Write a letter to someone in which you made a sex and/or gendered assumption or microaggression towards them
Write a letter to someone in which you made a sex and/or gendered assumption or microagression towards them. Think deeply about this situation. This is a writing activity and not intended for the person to actually receive the letter. However, it is your personal choice if you end up sending it to the person. This is a critical self-reflective and self-expressive prompt. Please provide details of the situation, the outcome, and how it has affected you or them today. Although the format and order of the essay is up to you, it should still be intentional and make sense in progression.
Refer to the sources in this unit’s folder to inspire thinking. Some more suggestions of examples (but not limited to) are:
You are a mother and you did not allow your daughter to play any sports.
Your friend was sexually harassed during a date and you criticized what she was wearing.
You asked your transgender co-worker about their situation “down there.”
Your little nephew cries easily and you used to always tell him to “man up” and not show any emotions.
You asked your Latina neighbor if those are all her children.
